Pictures from Philadelphia Museum of Art & Metropolitan Museum of Art
[edit]Hi (excuse my English, and I'm not used to commons). I saw on Bluesky that someone was offering for download a large number of photos of arms and armor from the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He says “You're free to use them for anything, even commercially. I tried to focus on details not usually represented in available reference material”. In a discussion on fr.wikipedia [1], @Don-vip: indicated that this might be a job for the DPLA Bot and that you should be asked. Posts on bluesky with links are here [2] (543 pictures, 1,5 Go) and here [3] (2566 pictures, 6,5 Go). Thanks in advance and have a nice day Unptitpeudtout (talk) 18:33, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Unptitpeudtout: Hi there! We actually do already upload all of the public domain collections images from the Philadelphia Museum of Art (see here). We are just uploading items from their online catalog, so I don't have a way to turn these Bluesky photos into a an upload batch. Maybe someone would have another idea at Commons:Batch uploading. - Thanks for your reply. @Don-vip will see if he can do it. Have a nice day Unptitpeudtout (talk) 20:41, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
missing file pages
[edit]Hi Dominic, thanks for your uploads! For some unknown reason there are ~100 file uploads by DPLA bot without an associated file page, see User:Achim55/Files without file pages. Please fix, thank you. Cheers, Achim55 (talk) 08:01, 25 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Achim55: Thanks, I will look into it. I am just using standard Pywikibot calls to do the upload. Maybe there is a bug in the code, but I don’t think even if I accidentally tried that the Commons API should allow an upload with no wiki text accompanied. Is it possible this is a bug on the Commons side, or a server error during upload? Just wondering if you have any more details, since you were the one looking for these issues. Thanks! - I've seen uploads fail like this before with even something as vanilla as Special:Upload. It's rare, but it can happen. - Jmabel ! talk 03:53, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'm guessing it's just a very occasional glitch in the wiki software, which your bot gets often enough because it uploads more (and in bulk). Is there any way to re-create the text (and licenses) the bot meant to create, and just create the File: pages directly without the upload? Carl Lindberg (talk) 15:22, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- I am working on that, it should be possible. DPLA's site has been down most of the weekend. :( Dominic (talk) 19:06, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
